About the Role
Our client, a premier engineering consultancy specializing in large-scale coastal and marine infrastructure, is looking for a highly experienced Field Electrical Engineer to join their fully remote team. This role is pivotal in overseeing the electrical aspects of diverse projects, from port developments to offshore renewable energy installations. While the role is remote-first, it requires significant travel to project sites for inspections, commissioning, and client liaison. You will be expected to provide expert electrical engineering guidance, ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and to the highest standards. This is a fantastic opportunity for an engineer who excels in independent work, thrives on complex challenges, and possesses a deep understanding of electrical systems in challenging environments. The role is nominally based in Richards Bay, KwaZulu-Natal, ZA , but operates on a remote and travel-intensive model.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide expert electrical engineering oversight and technical support for projects involving ports, harbors, offshore platforms, and renewable energy facilities.
- Conduct thorough site inspections and assessments of electrical installations, ensuring compliance with design specifications and safety standards.
- Lead and participate in the commissioning of electrical systems, including power generation, distribution, control, and safety systems.
- Develop and review detailed electrical design documents, schematics, single-line diagrams, and calculations.
- Select and specify electrical equipment suitable for harsh marine and industrial environments.
- Collaborate effectively with clients, contractors, and other engineering disciplines to resolve technical issues.
- Prepare comprehensive technical reports, progress updates, and project documentation.
- Ensure adherence to all relevant national and international electrical codes, standards, and best practices (e.g., IEC, IEEE, DNV).
- Manage electrical subcontractors and vendors, ensuring quality and timely delivery of services and equipment.
- Contribute to the development of electrical system maintenance and operational strategies.
- Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance on project teams.
Requirements

- Proven expertise in power generation, distribution, motor control, and protection systems for industrial applications.
- Experience with renewable energy systems (offshore wind, wave energy) is highly desirable.
- Proficiency in relevant electrical design and analysis software (e.g., AutoCAD Electrical, ETAP, PSS/E).
- Strong understanding of hazardous area classifications and associated electrical equipment requirements.
- Excellent knowledge of international marine and industrial electrical standards.
- Exceptional problem‑solving, analytical, and critical thinking skills.
- Outstanding communication, negotiation, and client‑facing skills.
- Ability to travel extensively (up to 60% of the time) to project sites, often in remote locations.
