Placements24 is seeking a Remote Senior Electrical Design Engineer for our client in the Energy sector. This fully remote role allows you to work from anywhere in South Africa with project oversight near Upington, Northern Cape.

You will lead electrical design for power generation, transmission, and distribution, develop schematics with CAD tools, perform load calculations, and ensure compliance with SANS, IEC, and IEEE standards while mentoring junior engineers.

Qualifications

• BSc Electrical Engineering required; Pr. Eng. with ECSA preferred.
• 7+ years' hands-on electrical design experience in energy/power sectors.
• Strong knowledge of power system design, protection, and control.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD Electrical, ETAP, PSS/E and Revit MEP.

Responsibilities

• Lead electrical design for power generation, transmission, and distribution projects.

About the Role

Our client, a leading entity within the **Energy** sector, is currently seeking a distinguished Remote Senior Electrical Design Engineer. This is a fully remote opportunity, allowing the successful candidate to operate from any location within **South Africa**, with operational oversight related to projects near **Upington, Northern Cape**. The role is pivotal in the design, development, and implementation of electrical systems for a range of energy infrastructure projects, including renewable energy installations and traditional power generation facilities. The Senior Electrical Design Engineer will be responsible for ensuring all designs meet stringent safety, efficiency, and regulatory standards, while contributing to innovation and the sustainable development of our client's power solutions. Key Responsibilities

• Lead the electrical design of power generation, transmission, and distribution projects, including substations and renewable energy systems.
• Develop detailed engineering drawings, schematics, single-line diagrams, and specifications using CAD software.
• Perform electrical load calculations, power system studies, and protection coordination analyses.
• Ensure designs comply with national and international electrical codes, standards (e.g., SANS, IEC, IEEE), and client requirements.
• Manage and mentor junior electrical engineers and designers, providing technical guidance and reviewing their work.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including civil, mechanical, and project management, to ensure seamless project execution.
• Conduct site visits and surveys (when necessary and feasible) to gather information and verify design parameters.
• Prepare technical reports, feasibility studies, and tender documents.
• Research and recommend new technologies and materials to enhance design efficiency and performance.
• Oversee the technical aspects of procurement and construction phases, addressing design queries and modifications.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
• Professional Engineer (Pr. Eng.) registration with ECSA or eligibility for registration.
• A minimum of 7 years of hands‑on experience in electrical design engineering, preferably within the **Energy** or power utility sector.
• Extensive experience with power system design, protection, and control systems.
• Proficiency in electrical design software (e.g., AutoCAD Electrical, ETAP, PSS/E, Revit MEP).
• Strong understanding of relevant electrical codes and standards.
• Excellent analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
• Proven leadership and project management skills.
• Exceptional communication and collaboration skills, vital for remote teamwork.
• Ability to work independently and manage project timelines effectively.
