Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a dedicated Geologist to join the Richards Bay exploration team in KwaZulu-Natal. You will analyze seismic data, build geological models, and oversee fieldwork to identify hydrocarbon prospects.

Ideal candidates hold a Geology degree with 5+ years in oil & gas exploration, plus expertise in Petrel and Kingdom Suite, seismic interpretation, and cross-disciplinary collaboration.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Geology or Earth Sciences; master's preferred.
• Minimum 5 years in oil and gas exploration geology.
• Proficient in geological interpretation software (Petrel, Kingdom Suite).
• Strong knowledge of structural geology, sedimentology, sequence stratigraphy.
• Experience with seismic interpretation and prospect risking.
• Excellent analytical, critical thinking, and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Analyze geological and geophysical data (seismic, well logs, core samples) to identify and delineate potential hydrocarbon prospects.
• Develop geological models and maps to represent subsurface structures and stratigraphy.
• Plan and oversee geological fieldwork, including seismic surveys and outcrop studies.
• Collaborate with geophysicists, reservoir engineers, and drilling teams to integrate geological insights into exploration and development plans.
• Prepare technical reports, prospect evaluations, and presentations for management and investment committees.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of exploration technologies and regional geology relevant to South Africa.
