Placements24 in Benoni, Gauteng, ZA, is seeking an experienced Mechanical Fitter and Turner to join our production team. The role focuses on fabricating, assembling and maintaining high-precision components, operating lathes and milling machines, and following drawings.

The ideal candidate has a Red Seal or equivalent certificate, at least five years in a heavy manufacturing environment, and a disciplined, quality-driven approach to machining.

Qualifications

• Qualified Mechanical Fitter and Turner with a relevant trade certificate (e.g., Red Seal).
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in a similar role, preferably within a manufacturing or heavy industry environment.
• Proficiency in operating manual lathes, milling machines, and other precision machining equipment.
• Strong understanding of mechanical principles, materials science, and engineering drawings.
• Excellent measuring and inspection skills, with a high degree of accuracy.
• Ability to diagnose and repair mechanical faults.
• Good problem-solving skills and a methodical approach to work.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Strong commitment to quality, safety, and workplace hygiene.
• Basic understanding of hydraulics and pneumatics is an advantage.

Responsibilities

• Operate lathes, milling machines, grinders, and other machine tools to produce precision metal parts according to drawings and specifications.
• Assemble, fit, and install mechanical components, sub-assemblies, and complete machines.
• Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and technical manuals.
• Perform maintenance, repair, and overhaul of manufacturing equipment and machinery.
• Measure and inspect workpieces to ensure they meet strict tolerance requirements.
• Troubleshoot mechanical issues and identify root causes of malfunctions.
• Select appropriate tools, materials, and equipment for specific tasks.
• Adhere to all company safety policies and procedures, including the proper use of PPE.
• Maintain a clean and organized workspace.
• Collaborate with team members and supervisors to optimize production processes and quality.
