Job summary

Placements24 is seeking an Environmental Scientist to join our client in Port Elizabeth, focusing on environmental aspects of energy projects. The role involves conducting EIAs, developing EMPs, and monitoring environmental performance to ensure sustainable energy development in the Eastern Cape.

The candidate should have a Bachelor's in Environmental Science or related field, with 5+ years in environmental consulting or management within the energy sector; a Master's degree is preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Ecology, or related field. Master's preferred.
• Minimum of 5 years in environmental consulting or management, energy sector experience.
• Proven experience in EIAs and EMPs per South African legislation (NEMA).
• Strong knowledge of environmental legislation and sustainability practices.
• Excellent report writing and stakeholder engagement skills.

Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs) for energy projects, including baseline data collection.
• Develop and implement Environmental Management Plans (EMPs) and monitoring programs.
• Assess environmental risks and propose mitigation measures for wind farms, solar parks, and transmission lines.
• Ensure compliance with national and international environmental legislation, regulations, and standards.
• Liaise with regulatory authorities, stakeholders, and communities regarding environmental matters.
• Monitor and report on environmental performance of energy facilities.
