Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Senior Environmental Scientist to support energy projects in the Upington region. The role focuses on ensuring compliance with environmental regulations, conducting EIAs, and developing mitigation strategies.

The hybrid model combines on-site fieldwork with remote data analysis, reporting, and strategic planning for sustainable energy development. You will oversee monitoring programs, analyze data, and advise on biodiversity, pollution control, and regulatory

Qualifications

Master’s degree in Environmental Science, Ecology, or a related field.
Minimum of 7 years of experience in environmental consulting or management, with a strong focus on energy projects (e.g., renewable energy, mining, infrastructure).
In-depth knowledge of environmental legislation, impact assessment processes, and ecological principles.
Proficiency in environmental modeling software and GIS tools.
Excellent report writing, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills.

Responsibilities

Conduct Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs) and baseline studies for energy infrastructure projects.
Develop and implement environmental management plans, including mitigation and monitoring strategies.
Ensure compliance with national and international environmental regulations, permits, and standards.
Oversee environmental monitoring programs, analyze data, and prepare technical reports for regulatory agencies and project stakeholders.
Provide expert advice on environmental risks and opportunities related to energy development, including biodiversity conservation and pollution control.
