Job summary

Placements24 in South Africa is seeking an Electrical Engineer specializing in Power Systems and Grid Integration to join our client in Pretoria, Gauteng. The role focuses on the stable integration of renewable energy sources into the national grid, with design, analysis, and implementation responsibilities.

The ideal candidate has a Bachelor's in Electrical Engineering, 7+ years of experience, and proficiency in PSS/E, ETAP, or DIgSILENT PowerFactory.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering with focus on Power Systems
• Master’s degree preferred for advanced roles
• Minimum 7 years of relevant experience in power system analysis and grid integration
• Proficiency with power system simulation software (PSS/E, ETAP, DIgSILENT PowerFactory)
• Understanding of IEEE/IEC standards and grid codes
• Experience with renewable energy integration (solar/wind) is desirable
• Strong analytical, report writing and presentation skills
• Ability to work independently and manage remote projects

Responsibilities

• Analyze power system performance, stability, and reliability, especially with renewable integration
• Design and implement protection schemes for transmission and distribution networks
• Develop and validate power system models using PSS/E, ETAP, or PSCAD
• Evaluate impact of generation facilities and grid upgrades on stability
• Collaborate with grid operators, regulators, and project developers
• Prepare technical specifications for grid connection equipment and control systems
• Conduct feasibility studies and provide technical recommendations
• Troubleshoot disturbances and identify root causes
• Stay updated on grid modernization technologies
• Contribute to long-term grid expansion plans
