Job summary

Placements24 is seeking an Environmental Health and Safety Officer in Polokwane to oversee robust EHS policies within cleaning operations. The role ensures a safe working environment, regulatory compliance, and a culture of safety for staff, the public, and the environment.

You will conduct risk assessments, develop procedures, deliver training, and investigate incidents, promoting EHS best practices across the cleaning division in Limpopo.

Qualifications

• A relevant qualification in Environmental Health, Occupational Safety, or a related field.
• Proven experience as an EHS Officer, preferably within cleaning or facilities management.
• In-depth knowledge of South African EHS legislation and standards.
• Strong understanding of risk assessment and hazard identification techniques.
• Excellent communication, training, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to conduct thorough investigations and write comprehensive reports.
• Proficiency in using EHS management systems and standard office software.
• Detail-oriented, organized, and able to work independently.
• Willingness to conduct on-site inspections and engage with staff in Polokwane.
• Commitment to health, safety and environmental protection.

Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and monitor EHS policies and procedures for cleaning operations.
• Conduct regular site inspections and risk assessments to identify hazards and implement controls.
• Ensure compliance with national and local EHS regulations (e.g., Occupational Health and Safety Act).
• Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses, determining root causes and corrective actions.
• Develop and deliver EHS training programs to cleaning staff and supervisors.
• Maintain accurate EHS records including incident reports and training documentation.
• Liaise with regulatory bodies and participate in EHS audits.
• Promote a positive safety culture throughout the organization.
• Manage safe storage, handling, and disposal of cleaning chemicals and waste.
• Advise management on EHS matters and new initiatives.
