Job summary

Ejobdesign in Newlands (City of Cape Town) invites applications for a Commis Chef to support our busy kitchen under the Sous Chef and CDP. You will learn the menu, adapt to changes, and ensure timely mise en place across shifts.

The role requires strong culinary knowledge, attention to hygiene and the ability to work well with senior chefs. Candidates should have matric and a recognised culinary qualification; 1–2 years’ similar experience is preferred and a neat, professional appearance is

Qualifications

• Matric (NQF 4) and a Culinary qualification from SA or international institution (NQF 5) advantageous.
• 1-2 years’ experience in a similar role in a busy up-market establishment.
• Satisfactory criminal record, subject to assessment of offences.

Responsibilities

• Accurately measure, peel, chop, and mix ingredients for service.
• Assist in cooking and plating while following recipes and presentation standards.
• Maintain a clean, organized workstation and uphold food safety regulations.
• Rotate stock using FIFO to ensure freshness and minimize waste.
• Receive, inspect and store deliveries, verifying accuracy.
• Follow health and safety regulations for handling, storage and cooking.
