Placements24 is seeking a seasoned Chief Surveyor to oversee all survey operations for mining projects in the Pretoria area. You will lead a team of surveyors, set out mine boundaries and provide crucial survey support for planning and production.

This senior role requires extensive experience, professional registration, and the ability to implement advanced surveying technologies while ensuring compliance with legislation and company standards.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 8 years in mining or engineering surveying.
• Professional registration with a recognized surveying body (e.g., PLATO).
• Experience with total stations, GPS/GNSS, and 3D laser scanning.
• Strong leadership and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Direct mine surveying activities including boundary surveys, volumetric calculations and setting out.
• Ensure accuracy of survey data, including digital terrain models and contour plans.
• Mentor survey technicians and junior surveyors.
• Implement surveying technologies such as GPS, total stations, laser scanners and drones.
• Liaise with mine management, engineers and regulatory bodies on survey-related matters.
• Maintain survey records and ensure compliance with legislation and standards.

• Proficiency in surveying software (e.g., AutoCAD, Civil 3D, specialised mining survey packages).
• Experience with total stations, GPS/GNSS equipment, and 3D laser scanning.
