About the Role

Our client is seeking an experienced and meticulous Chief Mine Surveyor to lead the surveying department at their extensive open-pit mine located near Pretoria . This senior role is responsible for ensuring the accuracy of all spatial data, including mine design, stockpiles, and infrastructure, crucial for operational planning and safety. You will manage a team of surveyors, implement state-of-the-art surveying technologies, and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of open-pit mining methods and a passion for precision and data integrity.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee all surface and underground mine surveying activities to ensure accuracy and compliance.
• Manage the collection, processing, and reporting of survey data, including topographic surveys, volume calculations, and as-built surveys.
• Develop and implement survey control networks and standards for the mine site.
• Operate and maintain advanced surveying equipment, including total stations, GPS/GNSS, and laser scanners.
• Train and mentor junior survey staff, fostering a culture of technical excellence.
• Collaborate with mine planning engineers, geologists, and operations teams to provide essential spatial information.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Surveying, Geomatics, or a related field.
• Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) or equivalent professional registration required.
• Minimum of 10 years of experience in mine surveying, with at least 5 years in a supervisory role.
• Proficiency with surveying software such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, or specialized mining survey packages.
