Job summary

Placements24 seeks a highly experienced Chief Surveyor for mining operations in the Kimberley region. You will lead the surveying department, ensure accuracy, compliance, and efficient mine planning, infrastructure development, and cadastral surveys.

You will manage a team of surveyors, implement best practices, and oversee GPS, total stations, laser scanning, and drone surveys. A PLS registration and 10+ years in mining surveying are required, with leadership and project management skills

Qualifications

• PLS qualification and registration with the relevant professional body.
• 10+ years of surveying experience, mining sector preferred.
• Experience with GPS, total stations, laser scanning, and drone surveys.

Responsibilities

• Direct all survey operations, including underground, surface, and construction surveys.

About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly experienced and certified Chief Surveyor to lead their surveying department for mining operations in the Kimberley region. This leadership role is responsible for ensuring the accuracy, efficiency, and compliance of all survey activities, including mine planning, infrastructure development, and cadastral surveys. You will manage a team of surveyors, implement best practices, and oversee the use of advanced surveying technologies. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in managing complex survey projects within the mining sector and a strong understanding of legal survey requirements in South Africa , ensuring the integrity of all spatial data and reporting.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage and direct all survey operations, including underground, surface, and construction surveys.


• Develop and implement survey standards, procedures, and quality control measures.


• Oversee the creation and maintenance of accurate mine plans, digital terrain models, and topographical maps.


• Ensure compliance with all relevant surveying regulations, codes of practice, and legal requirements.


• Lead, train, and mentor the surveying team, fostering professional development and high performance.

Requirements

• Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) qualification and registration with the relevant professional body.


• Minimum of 10 years of experience in surveying, with a significant portion dedicated to the mining industry .


• Expertise in advanced surveying technologies, including GPS, total stations, laser scanning, and drone surveys.


• Proficiency in surveying software such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and specialized mine surveying packages.


• Strong leadership, project management, and problem-solving skills.
