Job summary

Papenfus Retail Consultants CC is seeking a Checkout Assistant to provide friendly and efficient service at the Pick n Pay checkout area. You will assist customers with packing, handle transactions, and ensure quick, accurate service while maintaining high hygiene and safety standards.

The role requires weekend and holiday availability, basic cash handling knowledge, and the ability to work in a fast-paced retail environment, supporting supervisors and frontline staff.

Qualifications

• Grade 12 / NQF 4 or equivalent literacy and numeracy required.
• Ability to stand for extended periods and perform packing and customer service duties.
• Availability to work shifts, including weekends and public holidays.
• Basic understanding of cash handling is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Greet customers politely and offer assistance with packing and carrying goods.
• Provide professional, friendly service to enhance the shopping experience.
• Handle customer queries courteously and direct to staff when necessary.
• Pack groceries efficiently, separating fragile, cold, and cleaning products appropriately.
• Assist cashiers with packing during peak trading hours.
• Maintain hygiene and safety in the checkout frontline area.
• Direct customers to open tills when queues are long.
