Job summary

Pick n Pay is seeking a Checkout Assistant to provide friendly, efficient service at the checkout area. You will assist customers with packing, manage queues, and support cashiers during peak hours while maintaining hygiene and safety in the frontline zone.

The role requires good communication, accuracy in packing, and a proactive, customer-focused approach in a fast-paced retail environment. Weekend and holiday shifts are expected.

Qualifications

• Grade 12/NQF Level 4 or equivalent literacy and numeracy required.
• Ability to stand for extended periods and perform packing and customer service duties.
• Willingness to work shifts, including weekends and public holidays.
• Basic cash handling knowledge advantageous.
• Previous retail or service industry experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Greet customers and assist with packing and carrying goods.
• Provide friendly service to enhance the shopping experience.
• Handle queries and direct to staff as needed.
• Support cashiers with packing during peak times.
• Maintain hygiene and safety in checkout area.
• Keep counters, trolleys and floors clean and hazard-free.
