BVi Consulting Engineers (Pty) Ltd has a vacancy for a Bridge Engineer in the Northern Region - Transportation Infrastructure Department in their Tshwane office. This will be a permanent position.

The position is to contribute to the delivery of bridge and structural engineering projects within an established design office and bridge design team. The Bridge Engineer will be involved in the analysis, design, technical documentation and delivery of bridge and structural infrastructure projects, working collaboratively with experienced engineers and multidisciplinary project teams.
The position offers an opportunity to develop specialist expertise in bridge engineering while applying sound structural engineering principles to practical infrastructure projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Form part of an established design office and contribute to the successful delivery of bridge and structural engineering projects.
- Form part of a bridge design team, working collaboratively with experienced engineers, technicians and other project professionals.
- Assist with the analysis, design and detailing of bridges and culverts.
- Assist with the design of wind farm turbine foundations and associated structural infrastructure.
- Undertake structural engineering calculations and assist with structural analysis and modelling.
- Prepare and develop engineering drawings, design details, schedules and technical documentation.
- Assist with the compilation of "feasibility reports, design reports and other technical reports".
- Assist with the preparation and compilation of "tender documentation and technical specifications".
- Assist with the technical evaluation of tender submissions and compilation of "tender adjudication reports".
- Assist senior engineers with design reviews and technical checking.
- Participate in site inspections, investigations and fieldwork where required.
- Assist with structural monitoring, instrumentation and data collection where applicable to projects.
- Process and analyse structural and engineering data to support design, assessment and monitoring activities.
- Apply appropriate engineering software and programming tools to support structural analysis, engineering calculations and data analysis.
- Liaise with engineers, technicians, clients, contractors and other project stakeholders as required.
- Provide technical support during the tender and construction phases of projects.
- Maintain accurate engineering calculations, project records and technical documentation.
- Ensure assigned project deliverables are completed within agreed timeframes and required quality standards.
- Keep abreast of developments in bridge engineering, structural design, structural health monitoring and industry best practice.
- Take increasing responsibility for assigned design tasks and contribute to the successful delivery of projects.
Key Requirements
- Eng. or B.Sc. degree in Civil Engineering.
- A postgraduate qualification in Structural Engineering will be advantageous.
- ECSA Candidate Engineer registration or eligibility for registration will be advantageous.
- 1-3 years' relevant professional engineering experience.
- Exposure to bridge engineering, structural design or transportation infrastructure will be advantageous.
- Experience in structural engineering calculations and technical documentation.
- Exposure to reinforced concrete structures and/or bridge structures will be advantageous.
- Experience working within an engineering design office or multidisciplinary project environment will be beneficial.
- Good understanding of structural engineering principles and structural behaviour.
- Strong analytical and numerical problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications and technical information.
- Proficiency in relevant engineering and design software, with experience in the following being highly advantageous:
- SOFiSTiK and/or Bentley RM Bridge - bridge analysis and design.
- Prokon - structural analysis and design.
- Python - scripting, automation, engineering calculations and/or data analysis.
- AutoCAD - preparation and review of engineering drawings.
- Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Word, Excel and Outlook, for technical documentation, reporting and project administration.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
