Job summary

BVi Consulting Engineers Northern Cape (Pty) Ltd invites a Professional Civil Engineer to join our Upington office on a permanent basis. You will lead municipal water and wastewater projects across the full lifecycle, from feasibility to commissioning, driving high-quality civil and process integration.

The role requires strong design and project management capabilities, with experience in potable water/wastewater treatment, networks, reservoirs, and bulk infrastructure.

Qualifications

• BEng/BSc/BTech in Civil Engineering or equivalent recognised qualification.
• Professional registration with ECSA as PrEng or PrTechEng.
• Preferably 10+ years of relevant municipal water and wastewater experience.
• Strong experience in bulk water, pipelines, reservoirs and sewer infrastructure.
• Experience in potable water and wastewater treatment works and project lifecycle.

Responsibilities

• Lead planning, design and delivery of municipal water and wastewater projects.
• Design and review water/wastewater treatment works, bulk water/sewer infrastructure, networks, reservoirs and pump stations.
• Undertake hydraulic assessments and integrate civil, hydraulic and treatment requirements.
• Prepare reports, specifications, cost estimates and tender docs.
• Coordinate multidisciplinary inputs and manage client, municipal and contractor interfaces.
• Oversee construction monitoring, contract administration and project close-out.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior staff.

Role Overview:

We are seeking an experienced engineering professional with strong capabilities in municipal water and wastewater infrastructure, including potable water and wastewater treatment.

The successful candidate should be capable of leading projects through the full project lifecycle, from feasibility and concept development through detailed design, procurement, construction, commissioning and close-out.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead the planning, design and delivery of municipal water and wastewater projects.
• Design and review:
  • Water and wastewater treatment works.
  • Bulk water and sewer infrastructure.
  • Water and sewer networks.
  • Reservoirs and pump stations.
  • Associated municipal infrastructure.
• Undertake hydraulic assessments and integrate civil, hydraulic and treatment process requirements.
• Prepare engineering reports, specifications, cost estimates, Bills of Quantities and tender documentation.
• Coordinate multidisciplinary civil, process, mechanical and electrical engineering inputs.
• Manage client, municipal, contractor and stakeholder interfaces.
• Undertake construction monitoring, contract administration, commissioning and project close-out.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior staff.

Key Requirements:

• BEng/BSc/BTech in Civil Engineering, or equivalent recognised engineering qualification.
• Professional registration with ECSA as PrEng or PrTechEng.
• Preferably 10+ years' relevant experience in municipal water and wastewater infrastructure.
• Strong experience in municipal services, including bulk water, pipelines, reservoirs, pump stations and sewer infrastructure.
• Demonstrated experience in potable water and wastewater treatment works, including an understanding of treatment processes and their civil, hydraulic and mechanical interfaces.
• Demonstrated full project lifecycle experience, from feasibility and design through tender, construction and commissioning.
• Experience in construction monitoring and contract administration.
• Strong project management, client liaison, technical reporting and multidisciplinary coordination skills.
• Working knowledge of relevant design and modelling software.
• Valid driver's licence and willingness to travel.
• Willingness to be based in or relocate to Upington.
