BVi Consulting Engineers (Pty) Ltd has a vacancy for a Roads Geometric & Drainage Engineer in their Cape Town office. This will be a permanent position.

The position is to provide professional engineering and technical support in the planning, design and documentation of geometric road and road drainage infrastructure, ensuring that designs are technically sound, practical, cost-effective and compliant with relevant standards and project requirements. The role will require a good understanding of the relationship between geometric road design and road drainage, as well as the ability to develop practical and constructible engineering solutions. The successful candidate will be responsible for undertaking design activities and providing technical input to the Department Director and project team across various stages of transportation infrastructure projects.
The position offers an opportunity to develop specialist expertise in bridge engineering while applying sound structural engineering principles to practical infrastructure projects.
Key Responsibilities:
- Form part of an existing design office and the Geometric Design Group.
- Undertake geometric design for urban roads, rural roads and freeways.
- Undertake road and stormwater drainage design associated with transportation infrastructure.
- Perform stormwater analyses and hydraulic calculations.
- Develop road alignments, profiles, cross-sections and associated geometric design elements.
- Assist with the design of intersections, access roads and associated road infrastructure.
- Prepare and review engineering drawings and construction documentation.
- Provide technical input into the preparation of Feasibility Reports, Design Reports and Tender Documentation.
- Assist with the preparation and review of Bills of Quantities and cost estimates.
- Assist with the optimisation of material usage and practical design solutions.
- Coordinate geometric and drainage designs with other engineering disciplines.
- Review designs and drawings to ensure technical accuracy and compliance with project requirements.
- Provide technical support and guidance to draughtspersons and junior members of the project team.
- Liaise with clients, contractors and other professional team members as required.
- Attend site inspections and provide technical input during construction.
- Assist with resolving technical queries and design-related issues.
- Assist with the preparation of as-built documentation where required.
- Ensure project deliverables are completed within agreed programmes, budgets and quality standards.
- Maintain appropriate project and design documentation.
- Provide general technical and office assistance as required.
Key Requirements:
- Eng/B.Sc Eng/B.Tech in Civil Engineering.
- Professional registration with ECSA will be advantageous.
- Minimum 3–5 years’ relevant design experience in the civil engineering industry.
- Experience in geometric road design.
- Experience in road drainage and stormwater design.
- Experience within the transportation infrastructure sector.
- Experience with urban, rural road and/or freeway design.
- Experience in a consulting engineering environment will be advantageous.
- Valid driver’s licence.
- Willingness to work from the Cape Town office.

- Proficiency in relevant engineering and design software, with experience in the following being highly advantageous:
- AutoCAD
- Civil 3D and/or Bentley civil engineering design software
- Microsoft Office Suite
