Job summary

BVi Consulting Engineers Northern Cape (Pty) Ltd in Springbok is seeking a Project Technician/Technologist to take ownership of site technical matters, contractual issues and administrative execution across project timelines.

The role requires an NDip or BTech in Engineering or equivalent hands-on experience; travel to project sites is expected. Familiarity with GCC, FIDIC, NEC or JBCC forms, and strong MS Office skills are essential. Base in Springbok is required.

BVi Consulting Engineers Northern Cape (Pty) Ltd has a vacancy for a Project Technician/Technologist in their Springbok office. This will be a permanent position.

Role overview:

This role sits close to the action on various project sites. In working alongside engineers and project managers, this person takes ownership of the site technical matters, contractual issues and administrative execution across the span/timeline of a project.

The ideal candidate holds a NDip or BTech in Engineering or has built up equivalent hands‑on experience. Someone who has worked on construction sites, dealt directly with contractors, and understands what site management and construction management involve.

A background applicable to industrial developments projects and the build environment is a strong advantage. Experience gained within a consulting engineering environment is also a plus, as assisting with contractor appointments, contractual processes, considering claims, tracking progress of works, and enforcing quality and technical compliance is needed.

Typical projects to be involved with are industrial packhouses, storage facilities, roads, and project with mechanical aspects like fire systems, water infrastructure, and building services. A strong administrative and organisational aptitude is valued, but this is a technical role first, not an administrative one.

Key Responsibilities:
Engineering Stage
  • Advise, contribution and inputs, based robust industry experience, to the design process.
  • Deep involvement with the reviews of engineering deliverables, considering construction and project implementation logistics and practicalities.
Site, Technical & Construction Monitoring
  • Conduct regular site inspections and monitor construction progress.
  • Verify works are executed to drawings, specifications, and approved methodologies.
  • Identify site issues and deviations and report to the project manager or resident engineer.
  • Monitor health, safety, environmental, and quality compliance on site.
  • Attend site meetings, do minutes, and assist in resolving construction-related matters.
  • Review site diaries, progress records, and photographic records.
Payment Certificates & Cost Control
  • Review contractor payment applications and verify quantities and measurements.
  • Prepare interim and final payment certificates.
  • Track approved variations and monitor expenditure against budget.
Contract Administration
  • Administer construction contracts in line with applicable contract conditions.
  • Maintain registers for instructions, variations, claims, and payment certificates.
  • Monitor contractor compliance with contractual obligations.
  • Support review of extension of time claims, variations, and contractual submissions.
  • Ensure project records are complete for audit and close-out.
Reporting
  • Compile progress and inspection reports.
  • Track project milestones, risks, and outstanding actions.
  • Prepare close-out documentation and handover records.
Key Requirements:
  • NDip or BTech in an engineering discipline, or extensive equivalent experience in the mentioned site/construction environments.
  • Most applicable engineering disciplines are civil, structural, mechanical and electrical.
  • Approximately 5-7 years relevant experience, or extensive career experience, in consulting engineering, construction supervision, or infrastructure projects.
  • Experience with construction contract administration and payment certification.
  • Experience with site supervision and project coordination.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Word.
  • Valid driver’s license and readiness to travel to project sites.
  • Must establish Springbok, Northern Cape, as a base to work from.
  • Experience working with GCC, FIDIC, NEC, or JBCC forms of contract.
  • Familiarity with project management principles and construction schedules.
