You will be responsible for conceptualizing, analyzing, and detailing bridge designs that meet rigorous safety, performance, and aesthetic requirements. Working remotely, you will collaborate with a national team of engineers and stakeholders, contributing to significant infrastructure projects across the country. Key Responsibilities

• Lead the structural design of various bridge types, including beam, arch, suspension, and cable-stayed bridges.
• Perform detailed structural analysis, including load calculations (dead, live, wind, seismic), for bridge structures.
• Utilize advanced bridge design software (e.g., MIDAS Civil, CSiBridge, LUSAS) for analysis and modeling.
• Prepare comprehensive design reports, construction drawings, specifications, and bill of quantities.
• Ensure designs comply with relevant South African National Standards (SANS), AASHTO, and other international codes.
• Collaborate closely with project managers, transportation engineers, geotechnical engineers, and construction teams in a remote setting.
• Conduct peer reviews of bridge designs and provide expert technical recommendations.
• Provide technical support during the construction phase, including responding to site queries and reviewing contractor submittals.

Requirements

• A Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering; a Master's degree with a specialization in Bridge Engineering is preferred.
• A minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in bridge design.
• Professional Engineer (Pr Eng) registration with ECSA or equivalent is mandatory.
• Proven expertise in structural analysis software specifically for bridges.
• In-depth knowledge of bridge construction methods, materials (steel, concrete), and detailing.
• Familiarity with seismic design principles for bridges.
• Exceptional problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, essential for effective remote collaboration and client interaction.
