About the Role

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the structural design and analysis of bridges and related infrastructure, from conceptualisation to detailed design stages.
• Oversee the preparation of technical specifications, drawings, and tender documentation.
• Conduct advanced structural analysis using state-of-the-art software (e.g., SAP2000, ETABS, MIDAS Civil).
• Ensure designs comply with all relevant national and international engineering codes, standards, and regulations.
• Mentor and guide junior engineers and design teams, fostering a culture of technical excellence and continuous learning.
• Collaborate effectively with project managers, architects, other engineering disciplines, and construction teams.
• Perform site visits for design verification, construction support, and problem-solving during the construction phase.
• Prepare and present technical reports, design proposals, and project updates to clients and regulatory bodies.
• Manage project timelines, budgets, and resources effectively, ensuring timely and cost-efficient project delivery.

Requirements

• BEng/BSc in Civil Engineering or a related field; an MSc or MEng in Structural Engineering is highly desirable.
• Professional Engineer (Pr Eng) registration with ECSA is mandatory.
• A minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in structural engineering, with a significant focus on bridge design.
• Proven track record in managing and delivering complex bridge projects from inception to completion.
• Expertise in finite element analysis and structural design software relevant to bridge engineering.
• Thorough knowledge of South African structural design codes (e.g., SANS 10160, SANS 10162) and international standards.
• Excellent leadership, project management, and communication skills.
• Experience in mentoring and developing engineering teams.
• Ability to work effectively in a hybrid work environment, balancing office-based and remote collaboration.
