Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering; Master's preferred in Structural or Bridge Engineering.
• Pr.Eng registration with ECSA is mandatory.
• 8–10 years in structural engineering; at least 5 years in bridge design and analysis.
• Proficiency in MIDAS Civil, SAP2000, ETABS, CSIBridge.
• Strong knowledge of SANS and international design codes.
• Leadership and mentoring experience; client liaison.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the design, analysis, and detailing of various bridge structures, including road bridges, pedestrian bridges, and overpasses, ensuring compliance with relevant codes and standards (e.g., SANS, AASHTO).
• Perform advanced structural analysis using state-of-the-art software such as MIDAS Civil, SAP2000, or similar.
• Develop detailed design calculations, drawings, and specifications for construction.
• Conduct site investigations and inspections, providing technical support during the construction phase.
• Mentor and guide junior engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence and continuous improvement.
• Collaborate effectively with multi-disciplinary teams, including geotechnical engineers, transportation planners, and architects, to ensure integrated project delivery.
• Prepare technical reports, proposals, and presentations for clients and stakeholders.
• Manage project timelines, budgets, and resources effectively to ensure successful project completion.

Requirements

• A Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field; a Master's degree specializing in Structural or Bridge Engineering is highly advantageous.
• Professional Engineer (Pr.Eng) registration with ECSA is mandatory.
• A minimum of 8-10 years of progressive experience in structural engineering, with at least 5 years specifically focused on bridge design and analysis.
• Proficiency in structural analysis and design software (e.g., MIDAS Civil, SAP2000, ETABS, CSIBridge).
• Extensive knowledge of bridge types, materials (concrete, steel, composite), and construction methodologies.
• Strong understanding of relevant South African National Standards (SANS) and international design codes.
• Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making skills.
• Exceptional communication and interpersonal abilities, with the capacity to lead and influence.
• Proven experience in project management and client liaison.
• A valid driver's license and willingness to travel as required for site visits.
