Placements24 seeks an experienced Bridge Design Engineer to lead the structural design of diverse bridge types in a fully remote position. You will perform complex analyses, develop drawings and specifications, and ensure compliance with SANS and AASHTO standards while collaborating with a multidisciplinary team.

The ideal candidate has 8+ years in bridge design, a Civil Engineering degree (Masters preferred), hands-on experience with Midas Civil, SAP2000 or CS IBridge, and a Pr Eng registration

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering; Master's preferred.
• Minimum 8 years of progressive bridge design and analysis experience.
• Professional Engineer (Pr Eng) registration with ECSA is mandatory; strong remote collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead structural design of various bridge types: beam, arch, suspension, cable-stayed.
• Perform advanced finite element analysis and modeling.
• Develop detailed designs, drawings, specifications and contract documents.
• Ensure compliance with national/international codes (SANS, AASHTO).
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams in a remote setting.
• Review shop drawings, respond to contractor queries, support construction phase.
• Conduct peer reviews of designs and contribute to feasibility studies.
• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to technical development.
• Stay updated on new bridge design technologies and materials.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the structural design of various bridge types, including beam, arch, suspension, and cable-stayed bridges.

• Ensure designs comply with all relevant national and international bridge design codes and standards (e.g., SANS, AASHTO).
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including transportation planners, geotechnical engineers, and environmental specialists, in a remote setting.
• Review shop drawings, respond to contractor queries, and provide technical support during the construction phase, potentially involving site visits if required.
• Conduct peer reviews of designs prepared by other engineers.
• Contribute to feasibility studies, concept development, and lifecycle cost analysis for bridge projects.
• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to the technical development of the team.
• Stay abreast of new technologies, materials, and design techniques in bridge engineering.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering with a specialization in Structural or Bridge Engineering. Master's degree preferred.
• Minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in bridge design and analysis.
• Proven experience with advanced structural analysis software (e.g., Midas Civil, SAP2000, CSiBridge).
• In-depth knowledge of bridge design codes and standards.
• Experience in project management and leading design teams.
• Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making skills.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, suitable for remote collaboration.
• Professional Engineer (Pr Eng) registration with ECSA is mandatory.
