Job summary

SMEC is seeking a senior BIM/Draughting expert to lead complex design modelling and production tasks for water infrastructure projects in Durban. You will prepare tender and construction documentation, conduct CAD and modelling activities, mentor junior staff and support project delivery with technical solutions.

The role requires extensive Revit, Civil 3D and QGIS proficiency, along with BIM360/ProjectWise expertise, and adherence to SMEC standards and ISO-19650 principles.

Qualifications

• Professional Registration in Draughting (Autodesk Certified) in Civil Engineering Projects. (Bulk Water & Sewer)
• Minimum of 10 years of professional experience
• Minimum of 5 years in similar position
• Some key experience in relevant Water Infrastructure projects
• Proficiency in Revit, C3D, QGIS, and any other discipline associated software essential
• ACC / BIM360 and Projectwise Proficiency
• Modelling and Detailing to LOD 400-500
• Experience working on major infrastructure/ building projects

Responsibilities

• 3D Modelling, detailing and quality audits on outgoing drawings/ models
• BIM implementation
• Standardisation of all drawings on project
• Develop Autodesk templates/ Libraries, tools processes to maintain standards
• Participating in office technical discussions and project delivery meetings
• Mentor, train and provide technical support to junior staff
• Conducting conceptual and detailed design and drafting in order to prepare technical drawings and documentation
• Provide practical and economical solutions to project deliverables
• Applying a deeper understanding of modelling principles to devise and deliver practical and economical solutions to problems
• Maintain a high level of Computer Aided Drawing (CAD) and modelling expertise and engineering knowledge
• Undertake supervisor role and lead on projects
• Coordination of multi-disciplinary work on projects
• Contribute to the overall utilisation, management and profitably of the functional group
• Ensure drawings and documentation are to the highest quality
• Maintain client satisfaction
• Strictly adhere to SMEC’s Management System (MS), quality standards and OHS procedures
• Assist Project Managers with site queries and reporting solutions
