Job summary

SMEC Durban Division Water Infrastructure seeks a senior CAD/BIM Draughtsperson with strong civil infrastructure experience to contribute to 3D modelling, detailing, and the production of tender and construction documents and to provide technical support for the client requirements.

You will lead BIM implementation, develop templates and libraries, mentor junior staff, coordinate multi-disciplinary work, and ensure drawings meet high quality standards while adhering to SMEC’s management and OHS

Qualifications

• Professional Registration in Draughting (Autodesk Certified) in Civil Engineering Projects. (Bulk Water & Sewer)
• Minimum of 10 years of professional experience
• Minimum of 5 years in similar position
• Some key experience in relevant Water Infrastructure projects
• Proficiency in Revit, C3D, QGIS, and any other discipline associated software essential
• ACC / BIM360 and Projectwise Proficiency
• Modeling and Detailing to LOD 400-500
• Experience working on major infrastructure/ building projects

Responsibilities

• 3D Modelling, detailing and quality audits on outgoing drawings/ models
• BIM implementation
• Standardisation of all drawings on project
• Develop Autodesk templates/ Libraries, tools processes to maintain standards
• Participating in office technical discussions and project delivery meetings
• Mentor, train and provide technical support to junior staff
• Conducting conceptual and detailed design and drafting in order to prepare technical drawings and documentation
• Provide practical and economical solutions to project deliverables
• Applying a deeper understanding of modelling principles to devise and deliver practical and economical solutions to problems
• Maintain a high level of Computer Aided Drawing (CAD) and modelling expertise and engineering knowledge
• Undertake supervisor role and lead on projects
• Coordination of multi-disciplinary work on projects
• Contribute to the overall utilisation, management and profitably of the functional group
• Ensure drawings and documentation are to the highest quality
• Maintain client satisfaction
• Strictly adhere to SMEC’s Management System (MS), quality standards and OHS procedures
• Assist Project Managers with site queries and reporting solutions

REPORTS TO

Technical Principal or any other person appointed to supervise him/her from time to time.

Primary Position Purpose

Provide and undertake complex design modelling and production tasks, prepare tender/construction documents and provide technical support services in meeting the requirements of the functional group and its clients.

• To work independently and self-motivated to produce accurate drawings to a high standard within set deadlines
• Be responsible for ensuring quality model and drawing outputs across all regions within the function
• Be responsible for growing the BIM capability within the team
• Prepare to travel and remain out of South Africa for short periods, liaise with client representative and consultants from other disciplines.
