Job summary

SMEC, part of Surbana Jurong, invites a senior Draughtsman/Modeller to join the Water Infrastructure division in Durban. You will lead complex design modelling and produce tender and construction drawings, while mentoring junior staff and ensuring BIM standards.

The role requires strong software proficiency (Revit, Civil 3D, QGIS) and a track record on major water infrastructure projects. ISO-19650 understanding is beneficial.

Qualifications

• Professional Registration in Draughting (Autodesk Certified) in Civil Engineering Projects (Bulk Water & Sewer).
• Minimum of 10 years of professional experience.
• Minimum of 5 years in similar position.
• Some key experience in relevant Water Infrastructure projects.
• Modelling and Detailing to LOD 400-500.
• Experience working on major infrastructure/ building projects.

Responsibilities

• 3D Modelling, detailing and quality audits on outgoing drawings/ models
• BIM implementation
• Standardisation of all drawings on project
• Develop Autodesk templates/ Libraries, tools processes to maintain standards
• Participating in office technical discussions and project delivery meetings
• Mentor, train and provide technical support to junior staff
• Conducting conceptual and detailed design and drafting in order to prepare technical drawings and documentation
• Provide practical and economical solutions to project deliverables
• Applying a deeper understanding of modelling principles to devise and deliver practical and economical solutions to problems
• Maintain a high level of Computer Aided Drawing (CAD) and modelling expertise and engineering knowledge
• Undertake supervisor role and lead on projects
• Coordination of multi-disciplinary work on projects
• Contribute to the overall utilisation, management and profitably of the functional group
• Ensure drawings and documentation are to the highest quality
• Maintain client satisfaction
• Strictly adhere to SMEC’s Management System (MS), quality standards and OHS procedures
• Assist Project Managers with site queries and reporting solutions

Primary Position Purpose

Provide and undertake complex design modelling and production tasks, prepare tender/construction documents and provide technical support services in meeting the requirements of the functional group and its clients.

KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS

• To work independently and self-motivated to produce accurate drawings to a high standard within set deadlines
• Be responsible for ensuring quality model and drawing outputs across all regions within the function
• Be responsible for growing the BIM capability within the team
• Prepare to travel and remain out of South Africa for short periods, liaise with client representative and consultants from other disciplines.
