Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a skilled Ground Support Equipment (GSE) Technician for a contract role in Upington, Northern Cape. You will maintain, repair, and troubleshoot a wide range of airport ground support equipment, including pushback tugs, belt loaders, and aircraft stairs, ensuring readiness and safety of operations.

The role requires strong mechanical aptitude, knowledge of diesel/gasoline engines, hydraulics, and electrical systems, with the flexibility to work on-site and remote

Qualifications

• Proven experience as a Mechanic or Technician, focusing on heavy equipment or GSE.
• Strong knowledge of diesel and gasoline engines, hydraulics, and electrical systems.
• Ability to read repair manuals, schematics and diagnostic codes.
• Experience with diagnostic tools and equipment.
• Knowledge of workplace safety regulations and good troubleshooting skills.
• Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
• Valid driver's license and flexibility for varied hours.

Responsibilities

• Perform scheduled preventive maintenance on all GSE units.
• Diagnose and repair mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical issues.
• Conduct routine safety inspections and functional tests.
• Maintain detailed records of maintenance and repairs.
• Ensure compliance with safety regulations and manufacturer specs.
• Operate GSE safely during testing and operations.
• Manage parts inventory for GSE repairs.
• Respond to urgent repair requests to minimize downtime.
• Adhere to workshop safety procedures and maintain a clean workspace.
• Stay updated on new GSE technologies and maintenance best practices.
