Job summary

Bidvestfacilitiesmanagement in South Africa seeks a Technical Assistant to support planned and reactive maintenance of electrical, building and general infrastructure. The role provides technical support to field technicians and junior managers.

You will ensure access procedures, safety compliance, inspect assets, manage tool and equipment registers, and complete tasks on site within allocated timeframes, while maintaining clear communication with the team.

Qualifications

• N4 Electrical Trade Theory preferred.
• Grade 12 Technical Matric advantageous.
• Valid Code 10 EB Driver’s Licence; 4x4 advantageous.
• Exposure to basic electricity building infrastructure (carpentry, plumbing, painting).
• 1–2 years in a Technical Assistant role (PPM, CPM, vandalism exposure).
• Basic training on hand tools and electrical/mechanical equipment.
• Knowledge of OHS Act & ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems.

Responsibilities

• Ensure access procedures and work status updates align with procedures.
• Comply with Health and Safety requirements for Bidvest FM and client site.
• Manage tools, vehicles, test equipment, laptops, and mobile devices; maintain registers where applicable.
• Answer phone on duty and return calls promptly when off duty.
• Carry out inspections and report findings.
• Complete tasks on site within allocated timeframes.
• Keep email and company phone operational.
• Report to Field Technician and follow instructions.
• Adhere to quality requirements as per scope of work.

ROLE PURPOSE

Drive planned preventative, corrective, and emergency maintenance on all non-network infrastructure such as Air-Conditioning, Electrical plant and general infrastructure to give effect to the business maintenance strategy and client service standards. Providing technical support to Field Technicians, Technical Managers & Junior Managers.

MAIN OUTPUTS

• To ensure that all access procedures as well as work status updates are done in accordance with the agreed procedures and processes
• Technical Assistant must ensure he/she complies with and adhere to the Health and Safety requirements of Bidvest FM and the client’s requirement as applicable on the site.
• Technical Assistant must ensure Tools, Vehicles, Test Equipment, Laptops, Cellphones are looked after and checked for condition and ensure all of these are safe for use and maintained on a register (where applicable).
• The Technical Assistant will always answer his phone when on duty and return calls as soon as possible when not on duty.
• Carry out inspections & report back on all.
• Completing tasks onsite within allocated timeframes.
• Ensure that your e-mail address and company phone (where applicable) is always operational.
• Report direct and follow instructions from Field Technician.
• Adhering to quality requirements as stipulated by scope of work.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

The Applicant must meet the following requirements:

• National N4-Electrical Engineering Trade Theory- advantageous
• Grade 12 (Technical Matric advantageous)
• Valid Code 10 EB Driver’s License (4*4 and advanced driving will be an advantage)
• Practical exposure in basic tasks of electricity building infrastructure, including carpentry, plumbing, Painting.
• 1-2 Years in a Technical Assistant (PPM, CPM, Vandalism, etc.) position.
• Basic training on hand tools, electrical and mechanical equipment
• Knowledge of OHS Act & ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems

Technical/Core Training

• Experience in the GSM and Core Network Telecommunications Environment
• Knowledge of various power components and systems is an advantage (rectifiers, generators, batteries etc
• Trouble-shooting skills with ability to think outside of the box.
• Working electrical knowledge, including the use of tools and test equipment
