Job summary

You will support the General Manager in daily operations, ensure service excellence, and help manage costs and staff performance.

The ideal candidate has supervisory experience in an upmarket restaurant, is fluent in Afrikaans, and communicates confidently in English with guests.

Qualifications

• Previous supervisory or management experience in an upmarket restaurant environment is required.
• Fluency in spoken Afrikaans is essential.
• Strong English communication skills and the ability to engage confidently with guests are important.

Responsibilities

• Support the General Manager with the smooth day-to-day running of the restaurant.
• Lead restaurant operations during assigned shifts and maintain a visible floor presence.
• Ensure guests receive attentive, professional and efficient service throughout their dining experience.
• Assist with opening and closing procedures, cash-ups and daily operational checks.
• Coordinate front-of-house service and promote effective communication between service and kitchen teams.
• Supervise; motivate and guide employees to maintain consistent performance and service standards.
• Assist with staff scheduling, shift planning, attendance monitoring and operational coverage.
• Conduct pre-shift briefings and communicate menu changes, reservations and service priorities.
• Handle guest feedback and complaints professionally, resolving concerns promptly and appropriately.
• Monitor table flow, reservations and seating arrangements during busy service periods.
• Support stock counts, ordering, receiving and the control of restaurant operating supplies.
• Monitor wastage, expenses and operational costs to support profitability.
• Maintain high standards of cleanliness, presentation, food safety and workplace hygiene.
• Assist with employee training, performance feedback and the implementation of restaurant procedures.
• Ensure company policies and service standards are consistently followed.
• The position requires flexibility to work restaurant shifts, including evenings, weekends and public holidays.
