Job summary

Crew Life at Sea Ltd. seeks a skilled shipboard HVAC technician responsible for refrigeration and ventilation systems across the vessel.

You will maintain, repair and calibrate refrigeration plants, air conditioning, ductwork, and associated equipment, ensure safe operations, monitor temperatures, and support safety and compliance with maritime standards.

The role requires independence, attention to data quality in spare parts procurement, and collaboration with the HVAC Engineer and ship's crew.

Qualifications

• Experience with shipboard HVAC and refrigeration systems preferred.
• Ability to perform maintenance and repairs in constrained environments.
• Familiarity with health and safety maritime protocols.

Responsibilities

• Maintaining safe operation, maintenance and repair of provisions refrigeration plant including compressor units and piping systems for refrigerants.
• Monitoring and supervision of the storage temperature of provision storage rooms and refrigerators.
• Alarm tests and calibration of chilled room and freezer room thermometers.
• Handling and monitoring of provision cooling units and recording refrigerant leakages.
• Maintenance and repair of ice machines on board and cleaning.
• Maintenance and repair of refrigeration part of beverage dispensing systems.
• Inventory checks of spares and consumables.
• Independently performing assigned duties.
• Assistance in safety duties as ordered by HVAC Engineer and superior managers.
• Check data quality in procurement of spare parts and correct delivery.
• Assisting in tests and checks of equipment as required by GLOBAL-HESS, PMS and USPH and other regulations.
• Maintaining safe operation of air conditioning system including supervision and monitoring of room air in all compartments.
• Planned maintenance on air conditioning plants, ducts, fans and fire dampers.
• Engine room ventilation inspections; regulation of cabin fan outlets.
• Managing maintenance and purchasing system for department records and logs.
• Independent completion of duties and support to higher management.

Job description

Duties include (but are not limited to):

Refrigeration

Assisting in:

Maintaining the safe operation, maintenance and repair of the provisions refrigerating plant including refrigerated provision rooms (including compressor units and piping systems for refrigerants, room fittings).

Monitoring and supervision of the storage temperature of provision storage rooms (chilled rooms and freezer rooms) and refrigerators.

Alarm tests and calibration of the chilled room and freezer room thermometers.

Handling and monitoring of the provision cooling units and refrigerated catering equipment including recording of refrigerant leakages and correct actions/measures to minimize refrigerant leakages.

Maintenance and repair of all ice-machines on board including required cleaning works and sanitizing.

Maintenance and repair at the refrigeration part of refrigerated beverage dispensing systems

Inventory check of spares and consumables.

Independently performing work for assigned duties.

Assistance in safety duties on order of the HVAC Engineer and superior managers

Check of data quality in the procurement process of spare parts and correct delivery.

Assisting in tests and checks of equipment as required by GLOBAL-HESS, PMS and USPH and other relevant bodies and regulations

Ventilation

Assisting in:

Maintaining the safe operation, maintenance and repair of the air conditioning system including supervision and monitoring of the room air in all compartments of the vessel.

Monitoring and supervision of the operational parameters of the HVAC plant.

Planned maintenance and repair works on air conditioning plants, air ducts, supply and exhaust ventilating fans.

Ensuring safe operation, planned maintenance and supervision of the fire dampers.

Engine room ventilation including daily machinery ventilation inspection regarding TEC 1102 (Machinery space round).

Maintenance and examination of the fan outlets and their regulation in the cabins.

Correct and regular management of the existing planned maintenance and purchasing system.

Independently performing work for assigned duties.

Recording and control of department related records and logbooks.

Checks data quality in the procurement process of spare parts and correct delivery.

Tests and checks equipment as required by HESS-MS and USPH assistance in safety duties on order of the HVAC Engineer and superior managers.

Supports an effective and sustainable health and safety culture and environment on board, follows strictly HESS regulations and any Health and Safety Protocols in force to prevent the spread of diseases on board and reports to the Head of Department any observed violations of the Company's health procedures.
