Job summary

Atrax Logistics is seeking an experienced Airfreight Exports Controller for its Cape Town team. The role requires handling airfreight export shipments from start to finish, coordinating bookings and updates in a fast-paced environment.

The ideal candidate will have at least 3 years of freight forwarding experience with airfreight exports, strong knowledge of Incoterms and customs procedures, and must be comfortable working independently while collaborating with a supportive team.

We are looking for an experienced Airfreight Exports Controller to join our Cape Town team.

This role requires someone who is confident managing airfreight export shipments from start to finish, can work independently and takes full ownership of their files while remaining part of a supportive operational team.

The successful candidate must be organised, detail-oriented and capable of managing multiple shipments, clients and priorities in a fast-paced freight forwarding environment.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Manage airfreight export shipments from start to finish
• Prepare accurate estimates and quotations for clients
• Coordinate collections, airline bookings and cargo movements
• Liaise with airlines, co-loaders, overseas agents, transporters and suppliers
• Provide clients with regular, accurate and proactive shipment updates
• Monitor cargo readiness, bookings, departures, ETAs and delivery requirements
• Prepare and manage all required airfreight export documentation
• Maintain a working understanding of customs entries and export clearance procedures
• Liaise with Customs and relevant government departments where required
• Ensure shipment files and system information are accurate and kept up to date
• Coordinate multiple collections and deliveries while maintaining required turnaround times
• Identify potential delays, risks or operational issues and elevate these proactively
• Maintain professional communication with clients, suppliers, agents and internal teams
• Ensure compliance with internal processes, controls and operational standards
• Support improvements to operational processes, systems and procedures
• Ensure daily operational tasks and shipment milestones are completed within required timeframes

Experience & Requirements

• Minimum 3 years' experience in freight forwarding, with practical Airfreight Exports experience
• Strong practical knowledge of airfreight export procedures and documentation
• ShipShape experience is essential
• Good working knowledge of Incoterms
• Understanding of customs procedures and export clearance requirements
• Tariffing knowledge will be advantageous
• Dangerous Goods training or certification will be advantageous
• Experience working with freight forwarding or operational management systems
• Strong understanding of operational compliance and documentation requirements
• Ability to adapt to system, process and procedural changes
• Ability to identify operational inefficiencies and contribute to process improvements
• Valid driver's licence and own reliable transport
• Computer literate, with good working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PDF documents
• Strong email management and professional written communication skills
• Ability to work independently and make sound operational decisions
• Strong organisational and multitasking skills
• Excellent attention to detail
• Strong customer service orientation and sense of urgency
• Ability to work effectively under pressure in a fast-paced environment
• Willingness to work additional hours when operational requirements demand it
