Job summary

Röhlig & Co in Durban seeks a Senior Export Controller - Seafreight to manage export operations and ensure compliance across the freight forwarding process. You will coordinate import/export movements, handle customs documentation, and lead the team to meet strict deadlines.

The role requires 5–7 years of relevant experience, strong knowledge of INCOTERMS, seafreight processes, and excellent communication skills. Based at Grindrod House, Durban Seafreight Branch.

Qualifications

• 5–7 years of import/export controlling experience in freight forwarding.
• Coordinate freight movement of Import cargo according to client requirements.
• Knowledge of INCOTERMS and related documentation.
• Familiarity with seafreight, claims, and insurance processes.
• Knowledge of rate structures and international codes.

Responsibilities

• Plan the freight movement.
• Coordinate freight movement end-to-end.
• Process Customs and other statutory documents for clearance.
• Administer files and records.
• Process claims and manage disputes as needed.
• Provide guidance to Export Controllers and Learners.
• Ensure compliance with Customs Accreditation System.
• Ensure adherence to the quality management system.
• Take on additional responsibilities as required.

Job description

If managing exports coordinating freight, and ensuring compliance is your strength, you could be our next Senior Export Controller - Seafreight. This role is based at our Durban Seafreight Branch in Grindrod House.

Education

• Matric
• 2-year freight forwarding related qualification at NQF level 4 or NQF level 5 or equivalent

Knowledge and experience

• Have 5-7 recent years import/export controlling experience in the Clearing and Forwarding Industry with proven track record of end-to-end process execution.
• To co-ordinate the freight movement of Import cargo through the international transport chain in terms of the client’s import requirements
• INCOTERMS
• Knowledge of commercial, transport, carrier & depot and statutory body documents & stamps
• Sound knowledge of seafreight shipment types. Sound knowledge of claims/insurance processes.
• Geographic locations
• Knowledge and interpretation of rate structure
• National currencies and international codes
• Computer literacy (MS Word, Excel and Outlook)
