Job summary

The City of Coral Gables is seeking a Code Enforcement Officer to enforce zoning, City, and Miami-Dade County codes. You will conduct inspections, issue notices, receive complaints, and assist violators in achieving compliance while describing codes and permitting procedures to the public.

Responsibilities include liens, prosecutions, testimony, reports, and coordination with other City departments. Flexibility for weekends or special events and hurricane/disaster readiness is required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required or equivalent.
• College coursework in engineering, building inspection, code enforcement, or related field is preferred.
• Two years progressively responsible experience in code inspection or construction trades desirable.
• F.A.C.E. Level 1 certification must be obtained within one year of hire.
• Valid Florida Driver's License required.

Responsibilities

• Conducts inspections for violations of ordinances, zoning and City codes; issues notices of violations and citations.
• Receives and investigates complaints of zoning and City code violations.
• Assists violators in achieving compliance and explains codes and permitting procedures.
• Imposes property liens and serves enforcement orders; prepares and presents forms/evidence for prosecution.
• Gives depositions/testimony in Board and Court hearings; writes reports to justify violations.
• Provides information to other agencies and City departments; informs Building Division of violations; assists Police in investigations.
• Maintains files/records; operates equipment required for daily duties; reports/removes graffiti as needed.
• May work weekends/varied shifts or special events; participates in disaster survey teams.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
