Job summary

The City of Coral Gables seeks a licensed Building Official to oversee plans review, code enforcement, and floodplain management across city-wide projects. You will supervise the Chief Building Inspector, Building Inspectors, MEP inspectors, and plan reviewers, ensuring compliance with all applicable codes and ordinances.

The role requires Florida licensure (PE/RA/GC) and HVHZ training or experience, plus NFIP/CRS coordination responsibilities.

Qualifications

• HVHZ experience or 16-hour HVHZ training certified by Board of Rules and Appeals.
• Florida licensure requirements (engineer/architect/GC) as applicable for certification and oversight.
• State of Florida licensure with Miami-Dade County Board approvals referenced in the job description.

Responsibilities

• Interprets and enforces the Florida Building Code under the direction of the Chief Building Official.
• Oversees Floodplain Administrator duties and CRS/NFIP coordination.
• Reviews plans and permit applications for code compliance and may issue stop work orders.
• Assists with floodplain management and land development activities related to CRS and NFIP programs.
• Testifies at Board meetings when needed.
