Job summary

City of North Miami Beach is seeking a Code Enforcement Officer to enforce local codes and regulations. The role involves patrolling areas for code violations, responding to complaints, gathering evidence, and issuing warnings or citations as needed.

You will work under the supervision of the Building & Code Compliance Manager and coordinate with police and other departments to secure compliance. The position requires at least a high school diploma or GED and two years of related experience, or

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Two years experience related to inspection, law enforcement, building inspection, land use, public administration, or equivalent.
• Must possess a valid State driver’s license or ability to obtain one prior to employment.
• Knowledge of code enforcement principles and methods in a municipal setting.
• Working knowledge of inspection techniques and safety practices.

Responsibilities

• Patrols or inspects an assigned area to monitor for code violations.
• Responds to complaints related to code violations including signing, occupancy, nuisances, and land use.
• Investigates potential violations; gathers evidence; reviews facts against code requirements; issues warnings or citations.
• Meets with owners, tenants, contractors to review code requirements and securing compliance.
• Drafts notices, reports, and correspondence related to code enforcement actions.
• Provides information and assistance on code enforcement matters to the public.
• Maintains logs and records of inspections; prepares recommendations for code amendments.
• Coordinates with police, planning, and other departments; liaises with prosecutors as needed.
• Assist in presenting evidence in court and testifying when required.
• Participates in committees and performs other related duties as assigned.
