Job summary

The South Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) seeks a Transportation Officer to ensure safe and secure transport of youth to appointments and between facilities in Columbia and across the state. You will supervise and custody youth during transport per laws and agency procedures.

Responsibilities include maintaining vehicle and equipment readiness, documenting transports, and supporting security at facilities. Must meet state requirements and have a valid driver’s license.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Knowledge of state laws and SC child abuse statutes.
• Ability to pass competency exams and meet certification requirements.
• Six months of security experience in a correctional/detention facility.
• Must be able to restrain youth and remain mobile.

Responsibilities

• Provides secure transportation of youth between facilities, courts, medical appointments, and other locations.
• Adheres to agency policies on youth supervision, security protocols, documenting transports, and event reporting.
• Completes accurate documentation related to transports, incidents, and vehicle use.
• Provides statewide transport support to multiple facilities and on-call urgent transport needs.
• Keeps transport vehicles and security equipment inspected and properly used.
• Performs other duties to support the agency's mission as assigned by supervisor.
