Job summary

The Gateway Region YMCA is seeking part-time staff to monitor and officiate sports at the YMCA and off-site locations. You will teach the knowledge of the game to youth and adults, interpret rules, and maintain a safe environment for participants while promoting teamwork.

Responsibilities include organizing setups, operating equipment, and contributing to a positive work culture through training and meetings. Entry level with no certifications required; age 15+ preferred.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 15 years old.
• Minimum 1 year of experience working with school age children preferred.
• High School or College level knowledge of sports experience preferred.
• Entry level, no certifications required.

Responsibilities

• Monitor team sports at the YMCA or off-site locations.
• Teach the knowledge of the game to youth and adults.
• Interpret rules, policies and traditions of the game to participants.
• Be a team player that relates positively to staff, volunteers and participants.
• Observe participant and fan behavior; respond to health and safety concerns.
• Organize and manage sport setup, cleanup and activities to deliver a quality experience.
• Adjust and operate sports equipment (baskets, goals, scoreboards, sound systems).
• Contribute to a positive work culture through training and staff meetings.
• Stay current with applicable sport rules and regulations.
• Show enthusiasm about officiating and teaching the game.
