Job summary

The YMCA of Greater Charlotte is seeking an entry-level Referee for part-time work to officiate youth and adult games, enforce rules, and model sportsmanship while fostering a safe, inclusive environment.

This role requires strong knowledge of at least one sport, reliability, and the ability to work evenings and weekends. Perks include a free YMCA membership and opportunities for ongoing referee trainings.

Qualifications

• Strong knowledge of at least one organized sport (e.g., basketball, soccer, flag football, volleyball).
• Ability to stay fair, calm, and composed in high-energy environments.
• Reliable, punctual, and able to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.

Responsibilities

• Officiate youth and/or adult sports games in accordance with YMCA and sport-specific rules.
• Promote and model YMCA core values in all interactions.
• Arrive prepared and on time for scheduled games, maintaining attire and equipment.
• Maintain control of the game by managing participants, coaches, and spectators professionally.
• Ensure safety by monitoring player behavior and responding to injuries or conflicts.
• Communicate rules and decisions clearly to players and coaches.
• Assist in setup and breakdown of game equipment and layout as needed.
• Document and report game results and incidents according to YMCA protocols.
• Provide encouragement and guidance to players to support skill development.
• Participate in referee trainings and ongoing development opportunities.
