Job summary

The Gateway Region YMCA is seeking part-time staff to monitor and coach team sports at the YMCA or off-site locations. You will teach the rules and game knowledge to youth and adults, officiate games, and ensure safety and fair play across events.

You will join a team that values customer service, teamwork and ongoing training, with opportunities to learn leadership and sport-management skills while supporting a positive community program.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 15 years old.
• Minimum 1 year of experience working with school age children preferred.
• High School or College level knowledge of sports experience preferred.
• Entry level, no certifications required.

Responsibilities

• Monitor team sports at the YMCA or off-site locations.
• Teach the knowledge of the game to youth and adults.
• Interpret rules, policies and traditions of the game to participants.
• Be a team player who relates well to staff, volunteers and participants.
• Observe participant and fan behavior and respond to health and safety concerns.
• Organize and manage sport setup, cleanup and activities for a quality experience.
• Adjust and operate equipment (baskets, goals, scoreboards, sound systems).
• Contribute to a superior work culture through training and staff meetings.
• Stay current with sport rules and regulations.
• Show enthusiasm about officiating and teaching the game.
• Move to the correct position to see plays on field or court.
• Perform all other duties assigned.
