Job summary

Greene County Public Library in Xenia is seeking a Youth Services Librarian I/II to plan and provide services and programming for children, teens, and families, promoting early literacy. This part-time role requires 20 hours per week with daytime, evening, and weekend hours.

The position reports to the Head of Youth Services and offers a range of library benefits as part of the Ohio Public Employees Retirement System.

Qualifications

• MLS degree from an ALA-accredited school required; 1-3 years of library or customer service experience strongly preferred.
• Youth services experience with children and teens is strongly preferred.
• Knowledge of children’s and YA literature is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Plan, design, promote, present and evaluate library programs for children and teens.
• Provide reference assistance to patrons in person and by telephone.
• Maintain juvenile/YA collections and reflect community needs.
• Consult with teachers and prepare collections for classes.
• Teach basic library skills to youth groups and conduct trainings.
• Plan displays, bibliographies, and informational materials.
• Provide outreach to children at schools and child care facilities.
• Gather statistics and prepare reports.
