Job summary

Columbus Metropolitan Library's Northside Branch is seeking a Youth Services Librarian to lead teen and children’s programs, deliver expert reference and readers’ advisory services, and promote literacy across the community.

Youth services will align with the library’s Young Minds Strategy, with outreach to schools and organizations serving youth and families, staff training, and collection development to meet local needs.

Qualifications

• Master’s of Library and Information Science Degree from an ALA-accredited program is required.
• 1-3 years of experience working with youth is required.
• Ability to use library technology including PC, email, and Microsoft Office.
• Ability to work independently with limited direction and strong customer focus.

Responsibilities

• Provides high level customer service and expert reference assistance in person, by phone, email and chat.
• Develops and promotes teen and children’s programs in support of the Young Minds strategy.
• Provides readers’ advisory to customers using knowledge of the collection and resources.
• Trains staff and customers in the use of databases, digital resources, and reference tools.
• Participates in collection management and outreach to schools and youth-serving orgs.
