Job summary

The Columbus Metropolitan Library is seeking a Youth Services Librarian (40 hrs.) at the Northside Branch in Columbus, OH. This exempt, full-time role supports youth literacy, programming, and outstanding customer service for youth and families.

You’ll develop and deliver teen and children’s programs, provide readers’ advisory, train staff on databases and digital resources, and collaborate with schools to promote early literacy.

Qualifications

• Master’s of Library and Information Science Degree from an ALA-accredited institution is required.
• 1–3 years working with youth is required.
• Ability to use judgment when handling information and records.
• Ability to work independently with limited direction.
• Customer-focused approach to interacting with external and internal customers.
• Ability to present effectively in various formal settings.

Responsibilities

• Provides high level customer service and expert reference assistance in person, by phone, email, and chat.
• Develops and promotes teen and children’s programs aligned with the Young Minds strategy.
• Provides readers’ advisory services in person and virtually using relevant resources.
• Trains staff and customers on research databases, digital resources, and reference tools.
• Evaluates the juvenile collection and leads collection management and visual merchandising based on community needs.
