Job summary

Greene County Public Library seeks a Youth Services Librarian I/II to plan and provide services and programming for children, young adults, and families at the Xenia Community Library.

The role supports early literacy, assists with reference and instructional activities, and collaborates with teachers and community partners. Part-time, 20 hours/week with daytime, evening, and weekend shifts.

Qualifications

• Master of Library Science degree from an ALA-accredited school required for Librarian II.
• For Librarian I, a Bachelor's degree is required.
• 1-3 years of library or customer service experience strongly preferred.
• Some experience with youth groups and knowledge of children’s/YA literature preferred.

Responsibilities

• Plans, designs, promotes, presents and evaluates library programs for children, and youth.
• Provides reference assistance in person or by phone; conducts research in various media.
• Maintains juvenile/YA collections to reflect community needs.
• Consults with teachers; prepares materials for classes.
• Teaches basic library skills to groups; conducts youth training programs.
• Prepares displays, bibliographies, and informational materials.
• Provides outreach to children at childcare facilities and schools.
• Works within GCPL budgets for collections, performers, and supplies.
• Trains employees and assists in opening/closing; gathers statistics and reports.
• Participates in countywide children’s services and meetings.
• Keeps current with developments via conferences and continuing education.
