Job summary

The City of Elkhart, Indiana's Parks and Recreation Department is seeking a part-time Program Aide to help plan and run recreational programs, special events, sports, afterschool activities, and various age-group activities. You will assist the Program and Recreation Coordinator with operations, supervision, setup/cleanup, and equipment management.

Work schedules vary with programming and may include evenings, weekends, and occasional holidays.

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent; college coursework in recreation, education, or a related field is a plus.
Experience working with youth, adults, or seniors in recreational, educational, or similar settings.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Knowledge of recreational activities, sports, environmental educations, arts and crafts or event coordination is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

Plan and organize recreational activities under supervision of the Program and Recreation Coordinator.
Organize supplies and equipment and implement age-appropriate lesson plans and activities.
Complete attendance and participation records and other administrative tasks.
Assist with sports programs, games, special events, afterschool programs and other activities.
Supervise participants, enforce rules, and promote a safe environment.
Set up, clean, maintain and store program equipment and supplies properly.
Prepare facilities and fields for scheduled activities.
Maintain regular communication with the supervisor and site staff.
