Job summary

The City of Elkhart, Indiana is seeking a Program Aide for the Parks and Recreation department to assist with planning and delivering recreational programs, events, sports, afterschool activities, and other community activities. The role supports the Program and Recreation Coordinator with program operations, supervision, setup/cleanup, and equipment management.

Work schedules vary and may include evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; college coursework in recreation, education, or related field is a plus.
• Experience working with youth, adults, or seniors in recreational, educational, or similar settings.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential.
• Knowledge of recreational activities, sports, environmental education, arts and crafts or event coordination is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

• Plan and organize recreational activities under supervision.
• Organize supplies and equipment and implement age-appropriate lesson plans and activities.
• Complete attendance and participation records as required.
• Assist with sports programs, games, and afterschool programs.
• Supervise participants, enforce rules, and promote safety.
• Set up, clean, maintain, and store program equipment and supplies.
• Prepare facilities, program areas, and fields for scheduled activities.
• Maintain regular communication with supervisor and coordinator.
