Job summary

AHRC New York City seeks a Full-time Academic Instructor for Youth Workforce Development in Staten Island. The role delivers GED-prep instruction across Reading, Writing, Math, Science and Social Studies, focusing on building academic skills and confidence for out-of-school youth aged 17–24.

Responsibilities include administering TABE assessments, creating individualized plans, and aligning lessons to GED standards while fostering an equitable, trauma-informed learning environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Education, Human Services, Counseling, or related field required.
• Minimum 3 years of experience teaching or tutoring youth, preferably in GED preparation or workforce development.
• Familiarity with GED curriculum, TABE testing, and adult basic education methods preferred.

Responsibilities

• Administer the TABE and use results to assess baseline skills and monitor progress.
• Design and deliver trauma-informed GED-aligned instruction in Reading, Writing, Math, Science and Social Studies.
• Create individualized learning plans based on assessments and student goals.
• Develop lesson plans in advance using real-world themes and culturally responsive teaching.
• Incorporate financial and digital literacy into instruction for real-life GED preparation.
• Use instructional tech to engage diverse learners and track progress.
• Maintain safe, inclusive classroom environment and encourage participation.
• Prepare students for GED tests: RLA, Math, Science, Social Studies.
• Write monthly progress reports and maintain documentation for DYCD.
