Job summary

AHRC New York City is seeking a Full-time Youth Workforce Development Academic Instructor for the Advance & Earn program in Staten Island. The role focuses on GED preparation through contextualized instruction in Reading, Writing, Math, Science, and Social Studies, helping young adults acquire academic skills and confidence.

The instructor administers TABE, develops individualized learning plans, and provides engaging, trauma-informed teaching.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Education or related field is required.
• Master’s degree or NYS teaching certification is a plus.
• Experience: minimum 3 years teaching or tutoring youth, preferably GED prep or workforce programs.
• Familiarity with GED curriculum and TABE testing preferred.
• Strong commitment to equity and trauma-informed practice.

Responsibilities

• Administer the TABE and use results to guide instruction and progress.
• Design and deliver GED-aligned academic instruction (Reading, Writing, Math, Science, Social Studies).
• Create individualized learning plans based on assessments and goals.
• Develop and implement engaging, context-rich lessons with real-world relevance.
• Integrate financial and digital literacy into instruction.
• Utilize instructional tech to reach diverse learners.
• Maintain a safe, inclusive classroom and foster collaboration.
• Prepare students for GED Subject areas and monitor progress.
• Submit monthly progress reports and keep records per DYCD requirements.
• Collaborate with DYCD teams to support participant success.
• Support monitoring, site visits, and program compliance.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
