Job summary

The Franklin County Court of Common Pleas Division of Domestic Relations and Juvenile Branch seeks a Diversion Counselor to liaison with schools and the Juvenile Prosecutor referrals into the YEIS department’s truancy diversion and diversion programs. The role involves guiding referred youth, monitoring progress, and ensuring compliance with diversion terms using motivational interviewing.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or four years of experience working with problem-families.
• Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the Juvenile Court System.
• Relates well to all kinds of people; practices attentive and active listening.
• Strong computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft Word.

Responsibilities

• Condu ct conferences with youth and families to assess needs and link with community programs.
• Develops a 90-day intervention plan and coordinates with services to re-engage youth in education.
• Ensure youth compliance with plan via telephone, home, school, or treatment centers.
• Participate in team meetings to develop recommendations for treatment and placement.
• Maintain confidential case files in line with departmental policies.
• Update informal notes; prepare activity reports and monthly statistics.
• Redirect inappropriate behavior using motivational interviewing and guidance.
• Participate in meetings and training opportunities for diversion program education.
• Prepare reports and recommendations for Magistrate/Judge; attend hearings as needed.
