Job summary

YMCA of Greater Houston is seeking a Youth Development Leader to support before/after school and day camp programs. You’ll create a safe, fun, and enriching environment where youth feel valued and excited to learn.

You’ll lead activities, monitor groups, and adapt plans to diverse needs while modeling YMCA values. Applicants must be 18+, have a HS diploma or GED, and are eligible for background checks. A $3.00/hour stipend applies to eligible sites.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• High school diploma or GED.
• Six months of experience working with youth in a licensed facility, school, church, or similar setting.
• CPR, First Aid, AED, and Child Abuse Prevention training (or willingness to obtain).
• Ability to plan and lead age-appropriate activities.
• Experience working with diverse populations.
• Ability to pass state/local background checks and fingerprinting.
• TB test and any required immunizations per state/local guidelines.

Responsibilities

• Create a safe, fun, and enriching environment for youth in before/after school and day camp programs.
• Monitor activities, headcounts, and respond confidently to situations using YMCA policies.
• Foster a welcoming environment with positive behavior management techniques.
• Lead games, projects, and hands-on learning; adapt activities to diverse needs.
• Model YMCA values: honesty, respect, responsibility, caring, and faith.
• Support daily operations by keeping spaces clean, organized and compliant with standards.
• Build strong relationships with children, families, school staff, and staff.
