Job summary

You will join the YMCA of Greater Houston as a Youth Development Leader for before/after school programs and day camps. You will help create a safe, fun, and enriching environment where youth feel supported, valued, and excited to learn.

This role emphasizes energy, creativity, and compassionate engagement with families and staff. Part-time roles are scheduled Monday–Friday with after-school hours and potential day camp shifts.

Qualifications

• 18+ years old
• High school diploma or GED required
• At least 6 months of youth experience in a licensed facility, school, church, or similar setting
• CPR, First Aid, AED, and Child Abuse Prevention training (or willingness to obtain)
• Ability to plan and lead age-appropriate activities
• Experience working with diverse populations
• Pass state/local background checks and fingerprinting
• TB test and required immunizations per guidelines

Responsibilities

• Keep children safe, engaged, and accounted for at all times.
• Foster a welcoming, inclusive environment using positive behavior-management techniques.
• Lead games, projects, and hands-on learning.
• Demonstrate YMCA values: honesty, respect, responsibility, caring, faith.
• Maintain a clean, organized, safe program space per standards.
• Connect with children, families, school staff, and YMCA team.
• Follow all child-protection policies and sign-in/out procedures.
