Job summary

The Boys & Girls Club of the Northern Plains is seeking a Youth Development Professional in Elkton, SD to mentor and guide youth, design activities, and promote positive behavior. The role emphasizes relationship-building and program oversight to help participants grow socially and emotionally.

Responsibilities include organizing daily activities, ensuring safety, completing required paperwork, and collaborating with leadership to meet trimester goals.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Commitment to working four days a week.
• Willing to make a class schedule for the upcoming semester to meet Boys & Girls Club scheduling needs.
• Commitment to working at the Club during the summer.
• Must be able to work within school year operating hours.
• Must be able to work within summer operating hours.
• Understand, implement, and demonstrate behavior management principles and other youth treatment modalities per Club training and values.

Responsibilities

• Enforce rules, model positive behavior, and serve as a mentor for youth.
• Oversee daily recreation area operations, safety equipment, cleaning facilities, signage, and basic computer use.
• Organize and facilitate daily activities: games, fitness events, arts/crafts, and daily music instruction.
• Encourage participation and healthy relationships by greeting new members and promoting group activities while ensuring fairness.
• Assess group dynamics and collaborate with leadership to design activities for relationship building and confidence.
• Complete paperwork, incident reports, progress evaluations, and activity assessments as required.
• Foster teamwork and leadership by adding activities that promote responsibility.
• Ensure all program activities follow Club policies and procedures.
• Maintain safety and security of youth in the facility.
• Attend monthly all-staff meetings, biweekly one-on-one meetings, and team meetings.
• Assist supervisor in creating and achieving trimester performance plan goals.
• Provide daily feedback to supervisor on daily operations and program improvement.
• Implement the 5 Key Elements for Positive Youth Development.
• Exhibit the Club Values of excellence, impact-driven, teamwork, and good character.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
